The Hare and the Tortoise Retold by Sia

One day, on a summer's day, in a pretty meadow lived a show-off Hare and a slow-motion Tortoise. The show-off Hare asked the Tortoise "Do you want a race?"
Tortoise said, "Whatever, if you want a race because I will beat you."
"No.... Because you are the slowest animal in the land."
The Hare decided to eat some grass and take a nap. So the Tortoise was running as fast as he could. Tortoise was waiting at the finish line for silly show-off Hare. Hare got up and he didn't see Tortoise. Then he said "Oh my goodness! I have to go to the finish line." Hare saw Tortoise at the finish line. Hare had to say "Sorry for showing off to you at the start line." So Hare and Tortoise became friends and went home together.

The End

The message is never give up!!

A Long Run

On Tuesday it was a cloudy afternoon and the cross country was on the field. We needed to sit in our age groups. When the teacher was ready we started with the five year olds race. The lined up then they walked towards the line. When Mrs Pole said "On your marks, get set, go!" Malia was first in the race. When the people all had a turn the seven year olds were next. We walked up. When we were ready Mrs Pole said "On your mark, get set, go!" I was running as fast as I could. I ran around the cone and up to the fence. Then I got down and Monique was in front of me. She said I was first in the race. I'm proud of myself. I can't wait to get a certificate!

A Long Run

Yesterday afternoon we had cross country. I didn't run because I had a sore leg. I had to stay in the courts with Katelyn. We had cross country on the field. I saw Vanessa running. Vanessa came in 1st place. When Vanessa was running I saw Sia running as fast as she could. Then she slipped. On Friday Aaliyah would have a certificate. I saw that Sia was exhausted. Aaliyah told me that she was tired. My favourite part was when I saw Aaliyah running as fast as she could. I felt happy when my mum came. I said "Hi" to my mum then she said "Hi" back.

A Long Run

On Tuesday the whole school had Cross Country. Room Four and Room Five had to run twice because Mrs Pole said so. I came fifth because my heart was beating so fast that I stopped and walked. When Courtney was catching up to me I ran as fast as I could and passed Lenleigh. I went past her because she was tired. They started running when I went past them. I stopped for a walk when they caught up I ran faster and sat on the blue mat. Courtney finished the course on her own. I was so exhausted when I fot to the fence and when I walked up the hill. William said to me good story. He was talking about my story in the news letter. it was a long, long race, After this we had to follow Monique around the field. My auntie Afu was there. I liked the part when William said "Who is my favourite story writer."

A Long Run

On a cloudy Tuesday the whole school had cross country. First of all we had to line up in our age groups. The five year old girls had to go first. When they were ready to run Mrs Pole said, "Get on your mark, get set, go!" The five year old girls ran as fast as they could. My little sister was racing too. She came second. My family was very proud of her. When it got to my turn I was very nervous. Mrs Pole said "Go!" And I ran very fast. Alan was coming first and and I was second. Then Alan slipped so I came first. I ran very fast when I saw William. Alan caught me up. After that Alan went past me and I came second. When Alan was at the finish line Marcus went past me after I ran to the finish line. The tricky part was running up the hill. When I ran up the hill I was tired, the same with Alan. I think cross country is good because it makes me fit.

A New Skill

Last Tuesday afternoon Room 4 and Mrs Pole went to the school hall to learn a new kiwi sport because we needed to learn more things about kiwi sport. When we got into the hall Mrs Pole introduced our instructor, Robbie. First of all Robbie told us to take off our shoes and socks but Olidah and I didn't because we had stockings on. To start with Robbie said, "We will start with a warm up game." It was called Stuck in the Mud. I forgot how to play it! Robbie said, "This is how we play Stuck in the Mud. There are two people that have to tag other people. If they get tagged her or him has to put their hand up, then another person has to double clap the person who has their hands up." I felt happy to play with the class. Robbie said to move away from each other. When Robbie said "Go" we all ran around the hall screaming. I saw Olidah trying to get me. I started to slow down. Olidah tagged me. I put my hand up, I saw Malakai coming to double clap me so I could run away. I saw other people getting tagged. Next Robbie said "Stop." He said to come and sit down. I wondered what was going on. Robbie was going to show us how to do a fore hand grip and a back hand grip. Robbie said " Let's start with a fore hand grip,  a fore hand grip is like your shaking hands with someone." Robbie checked if we were doing it right. After this he gave us one racquet and one shuttlecock. He explained what a shuttlecock was made of. It was made out of fifteen goose feathers and at the bottom was a cork. I was so amazed with how people made shuttlecocks. Last of all Robbie said, " We will play a game called the Hamburger game. You have to make a hamburger with the racquet and shuttlecock and walk with it." Robbie put us in teams. I was with Keira and Olidah. When Robbie said stop we all went to sit down and go back to class. I felt happy and I can't wait until we go to badminton again.

After this we went to get a shuttlecock and a racquet from Robbie. He told us to bounce the shuttlecock. The instructor told us we had to be careful bouncing the shuttlecock. It was fun playing the game. It was a kiwi sport. I nearly hit the shuttlecock 6 times. The feathers were made out of goose feathers and there were fifteen feathers. When I hit the shuttlecock it flew.

While we were playing Robbie told us we are going to make a hamburger. It was like we were outside in the air. I said I love badminton games. On the bottom of the shuttlecock was a cork. I went backwards and forwards. Last of all we got our shoes and went back to class. I enjoyed going to badminton. I look forward to it again.

Our Cool Badminton Lesson

On Tuesday afternoon Room 4 went to the school hall for our first badminton lesson to learn new skills. First of all we started off with a warm up. The first thing in warm up was a game that you might know - Stuck in the Mud. Then Robbie, our instructor, told us to come and sit down. Next he showed us something like a tennis racquet but he said it was a badminton racquet. A little while later Robbie told us a little thing about shuttlecocks. A shuttlecock is a thing that you play with, a bit like tennis. Its round part is a cork. Cork comes from trees. Robbie said to have a try and bounce it. "But not very hard," said Robbie. Room 4 bounced and hit everything with the shuttlecock. It was very hard. The last game was the H
amburger game. It was a bit hard. After we'd finished we had to line up to go back to class to get back to our learning. I wish that we could do it in the holidays and everyday.

Maris-Stella - First Badminton Lesson

Last Tuesday Room 4 had our first Badminton lesson. We had to go to the hall and take off our shoes because the instructor, Robbie, said. He showed us a racquet and a shuttlecock and told us all about it. He  showed us the real shuttlecock. It had goose feathers. It had 15 goose feathers. The bottom was made out of cork. Robbie said, "Hold your racquet like a frying pan then you line up behind Samasoni." Robbie gave us a shuttlecock and told us to line up against the wall. We played Stuck in the Mud. We played Tiggy and the taggers were Aaliya and Macky. The next taggers were Fiapo and Samasoni. They tagged me and then Kiera came and double hi-5 my hand. After this Room 4 had the shuttlecocks.  Robbie showed us how to bounce the shuttlecock on the racquet. It went flying up all the way up to the ceiling. I could do it as well as Robbie. I hit the shuttlecock up in the air. I bounced the shuttlecock higher and higher. Last of all Room 4 played the Hamburger game. We went forwards and backwards. The shuttlecock kept falling off and we kept on practising. My team kept on trying and trying. Room 4 almost got it but there was no time to practice. Robbie said ,"We will have Badminton every Tuesday". I liked the way it was cool and wonderful.
